Jenna Maclaine Reviews
August 24, 2009 in Reviews
I admit it, I am officially a Cin Craven lover. Jenna Maclaine has created the most awesome heroine in Cin, I was so excited when I heard from Jenna that I had one her Sinful Summer Contest. I had bought Huntress for Christine Warren’s short story, but Jenna’s short story made me jump online and find out what else she written. Which ended up with me winning her contest and finding not only a great author but an amazing animal lover (and a big sweetie).
Let’s start in order of book release, copied directly from Jenna’s website.
The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance – The Righteous
This anthology from Running Press features the short story titled ”The Righteous,” set in 1675. This is Devlin and Justine’s story and a prequel to Wages of Sin.
Wages of Sin
Dulcinea Craven descends from a long line of witches, and she has just inherited wild, untrained magical powers that she has no idea how to control. Now a ruthless vampire and an age-old demon are determined to enslave Cin and steal her power for their own. Her only hope is The Righteous, a band of warrior vampires who slay the rogue undead. Among them is Michael, a fierce swordsman who inflames Cin’s most primal hungers. Showing her a sensual pleasure beyond anything in the mortal realm, she must choose between the human existence she has always known, and immortality as a vampire—a new life filled with forbidden urges, dark yearning, and unearthly passions…
Strange Brew – Dark Sins
This anthology from St. Martin’s Press features a short story from Cin’s world titled “Dark Sins,” set in 1818.
Grave Sins
This is the second book in the Cin Craven series, set in 1828.
With Michael by her side, Cin’s latest mission brings her face-to-face with Marrakesh, a beautiful, half-mad vampire queen charged with slaughtering humans. If she’s found guilty, Marrakesh will pay with her life. But Cin is convinced that someone- or something- far more ruthless is trying to steal the queen’s throne. It’s a mission that will pit Michael and Cin against each other for the first time, awakening their darkest instincts and testing their love like never before.
I am not a fan of period paranormals, I usually put those books back on the shelf and pretend they don’t exist. Thank god for short stories or I would have missed one of my new favorite authors. When I think period writing, I think old English but Jenna writes it modern with a kick ass take. It’s not boring and it definitely doesn’t make you feel the need to grab a dictionary and find out what this word or that word means.
The basic gist is, without telling you what happens in each book… The Righteous are a group of Vampires created to stop rogue vampires from killing their own kind or humans. Cin is a witch who comes into contact with The Righteous because a Demon has been sent to kill her and she needs help fast! She ends up falling for a member of The Righteous and has to decide death or undeath. Will a witch survive the change?
The dialogue is amazing, from funny moments to on the seat of your couch moments. I read all of the books in 2 days, I almost couldn’t put them down! I cannot wait for Bound by Sin (December 2009), this honestly is my favorite series of 2009. I can’t recommend Jenna Maclaine any higher, trust me. Read an excerpt of some of her books here.
Run out and grab them all, so you can wait patiently with me for Bound by Sin. Pfft. I lied, I am so not patient.

Thanks WLP…i had already read a review for wages of sin but now it’s officaly in my plan to read shelf. Great review.
Awww!! Thank you, sweetie! I’m SO happy that you enjoyed them! I think you’ll really like Bound by Sin (though, truthfully, I liked it better before the editing!). Right now I’m writing another short story for Trisha Telep which will be out in January in the Mammoth Book of Irish Romance. That being said, I must get back to work now!
Hugs to you and big sloppy kisses to Seamus~
Jenna
Jenna you are such a tease! lol! Making us wait until December is so not fun!
Seamus sends big kisses back (he does give kisses if you ask him).
We’re just waiting 10 minutes before his PM blood glucose reading, he’s mad that I make him fast 2 hours before his shot! Then I’ll post an update on the furry monster!
The author actually wrote to thank you…wow.. you’re my new hero. I must admit that it was very nice of her. I have to buy that book sooner than I thought.
She is a big sweetheart, she’s Seamus’ adopted auntie!
And I’m very glad you won my contest and I got a chance to “meet” you and Mr. Seamus! Did you read him the kitty parts?? LOL… I have pictures of Prissy on Myspace and Facebook he might enjoy!
Take care, dear!
Me too Jenna, you’ve been amazing. Seamus and I love you to bits! *goes over to Facebook*
Hey Roger…. actually I was just stopping by to check on Seamus and happened to see the post! LOL! But I do VERY MUCH appreciate anyone who takes time out of their lives to read or review my books. It’s quite an honor for me and I’m still new enough at this that it continues to amaze me that anyone actually wants to read what rolls around in my head!
Well a couple of people on the Chapters site actually suggested Wages of Sin to Me. So now it’s guaranteed I will read it and thanks for writing back. Things like that are more than appreciated.
I just found your site so I am catching up on all the news and I have to say that cool authors like Jenna who take time out of their lives to check on kitty-meows statis and give thanks for reviews get moved to the TOP of my to read/review list.
Hugs and kisses for Master Seamus and kitty high-fives from our boys Dewey & Decimal! They just know everything will be a-ok!
