Interview & Contest With Terri Garey

November 17, 2009 in Author Interviews, Contests

terrigareybefore-afterTerri Garey’s latest book: Silent Night, Haunted Night was released on October 13. I am very excited to have her here and also to offer my readers a chance to win ONE of Terri’s books, readers choice!

Welcome to Writings of a Wicked Book Addict, Terri. Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for my readers & your readers.

WLP: Can you tell us about Silent Night, Haunted Night?

TG: SILENT NIGHT, HAUNTED NIGHT is a ghost story with a modern-day Christmas twist, the fourth book in the series that began with DEAD GIRLS ARE EASY.  In it, the holidays seem to have brought nothing but trouble for Nicki Styx, as the Fates themselves are out to teach her a lesson for meddling in the spirit world.  One of their deadliest and sexiest weapons is Selene the succubus, able to seduce any man by invading his dreams, whose amorous attentions are set on Nicki’s boyfriend, Joe Bascombe.  Desperate to keep Selene from sinking her claws into Joe, Nicki finds herself accepting help from an unlikely source… the Devil himself.

WLP: How do you come up with the names for your books?

TG: I like puns and mixing humor with darkness, and I’ve been fortunate that my editor and I usually see eye to eye on that!  There’s no magic formula, really – inspiration strikes when it strikes.

WLP: What’s next for Nicki & Joe?silentnght-1

TG: They live happily ever after, of course!  :)

WLP: How many books do you see happening in the series?

TG: Right now there are four stand-alone novels, plus a novella (GHOULS NIGHT OUT, from the paranormal anthology WEDDINGS FROM HELL), but I don’t rule out future books in Nicki and Joe’s world.  Right now I’m putting them aside, at least temporarily, to work on a spinoff from their story, based on the character of Sammy Divine, a/k/a the Devil himself.

WLP: Why did you choose to have Nicki co-own a vintage clothing store?

TG: I wanted her to have a fun job that made her both self-supporting and unique.  I absolutely adore vintage jewelry, and my mother used to love to go to auctions and garage sales – she’d always come home with treasures of some kind (at least to her)!  Since Nicki’s a thoroughly modern girl, she’s into fashion, so it seemed like a natural fit.

WLP: I know we shouldn’t, but us readers just LOVE Sammy. Are we going to get more Sammy? Spin off maybe?

TG: Yes, Sammy refuses to stay in the background, that bad boy!  He’s been demanding his own series, and now he’s got it.  It’s a trilogy which will be released by Avon in 2011, in which the world’s oldest and most misunderstood bad boy takes on the job for which he was originally created—that of a guardian angel.  Finally offered a chance to step into the Light, will he take it, or remain forever trapped by the Darkness he himself created?  The first book in the series, THE DEVIL’S BARGAIN, will be out in April 2011.

WLP: I know you are a big 69 Eyes fan, what other bands do you listen too?

TG: I’m a big fan of Chris Cornell (who was in Soundgarden and Audioslave), and the Kings of Leon.  I love a variety of bands, both old and new.  Elvis Costello, the Pretenders, Blondie, Sisters of Mercy, Billy Idol, Evanescence… if I turn on the radio I tune it to the Alternative station.

WLP: Speaking of 69 Eyes, I saw some pictures of you with the boys, was that your first meet with them? How did it go? Did you go fan-girl on them? Ha

band2TG: *big fangirl sigh*  Yes, that was my first face-to-face with the hard-rockin’ Helsinki Vampires, and they couldn’t have been more gracious and friendly.  Finland obviously produces some great guys, and some great bands.  J  They know how to pose, don’t they?  It was a great night.  Absolutely, fabulously, fun.

WLP: Nicki see’s ghosts, have you seen any? Or do you have a good ghost story for us?

TG: I have never seen a ghost, nor do I wish to!  That’s actually one of the reasons why I write about them – I find the concept terrifying!

I do have a good ghost story for you though, a true one, but it’s a bit long – you can read the whole thing on my blog right here

WLP: What do you do when you aren’t writing?

TG: I walk every morning, write every day, read as much as possible, and have a glass of wine with my husband before dinner, when he comes home from work.  Other than that I work in my garden, hang out with family and friends, go to the movies, all the usual stuff.

WLP: What have you been reading lately?

TG: I just finished Anna Campbell’s CAPTIVE OF SIN, and am about to start GRACELING, by Kristin Cashore.  I like variety, and read everything from historicals to science fiction epics.

WLP: Finally, what’s one thing us readers should know about you?

TG: I’m a big scaredy-cat?  Practically a vegetarian? Am madly in love with my husband after 18 years?  I honestly don’t know – pick one.  :)

Thanks Terri for taking the time to answer some questions!
