Why I Am Not A Twilight Fan
November 29, 2009 in Book News
I am not a huge Twilight fan, I wasn’t a fan of the writing or the movie. I have yet to see New Moon, because I kid you not I came down with food poisoning whilst sitting in my seat at the theatre. Go figure, maybe it was an Omen.
Since Twilight, I have read other YA novels and realized just how much I didn’t like Meyers writing. The whole story was unrealistic. Wait, how can a book about Vampires be realistic? Am I an idot, you ask? No. Vampire’s & teenage werewolfs aside, think about it. Really hard. Would you be okay waking up in your room, as a teenager, while a guy sits and watches you? I think not. It’s not romantic, it’s creepy and stalkerish.
During Twilight the movie, I laughed. And laughed some more. I thought the acting was brutal, the repetative backround music made me laugh and Jasper with the wanna-be Edward Scissor Hands face just about made me pee my pants. Nevermind the make up. And can someone kindly point me to the fangs? Cause I sure as hell didn’t see any on the Cullen’s. Are we sure they’re vampires and not just Emo? Or maybe the tears falling from my eyes made me miss them. Who knows.
When I came across this brilliant article, I just about applauded. I read this and cackled out loud. Finally someone who isn’t on the Twilight Band-Wagon. Kudos to you, I am voting this my favorite blog post of 2009.
I don’t know about you all, but I have had it up to here with the mechandising and the Twilight this and that. I cannot take it anymore, when the hell is this going to end?! MAKE IT STOP. Seriously, have you seen some of the merch? It’s creepy and rather weird. Even the guys at the bookstore the other day wanted it to end, I asked.
So I have admitted it, I am not a fan of the Twilight Franchise.
But I do love my Edward Cullen Doll, he’s fun to take places and pose in ridiculous positions. Even if my boyfriends tries to “kill” Edward everytime he sees him.

Nicely put! I wish I could say it would be over soon. But there are two more movies to get through. I guess, we can be thankful that Stephenie decided to end the series on book four. It’ll probably be years before she does anything with Midnight Sun. I think.
I did go see New Moon, it was better than Twilight. By better I mean the cgi and scene setups. The best part of it were the wolves. And they must of heard the talk about Jasper looking like Edward Scissor hands because he didn’t look like him so much this time around. Oh, and Edward’s chest looked kinda freaky when he took off his shirt to go out into the sun in Plaza. Tuffs of hair and all that whiteness grossed me out a bit.
Okay, I will shut up now. Just dropping in to show my support of your post here.
LOL the condoms made me laugh, considering the book.
My bestie has a copy of NM, so I might just check that out.
Wtf is Midnight Sun? And have you attempted to read The Host? 2 chapters was as far as I got.
Midnight Sun is Twilight from Edwards point of view…*laughs*
No I didn’t read The Host. Someone at work let me borrow it but I couldn’t get into it.
I like the books, even though the writing’s terrible. I do agree with the merch thing. IT’S TOO MUCH! I want it to be over already.
Another 2 years I assume we’ll be dealing with Twilight and its brothers! Ugh.
Thank you so much for being on the same bandwagon as me and for saying it out loud. I too detest the books (the most poorly written, overly angsty things I’ve ever read in my life-couldn’t even finish them) and find the actors (if you can call them that) to make the movies even more unwatchable. I just don’t get the adoration and unfortunately it won’t end anytime soon since the next movie installment comes out late next summer (I think).
You are most welcome, its truly driving me insane. Everytime you turn on the TV, the computer, the newspaper it’s stalking you ala Edward!
So I was looking at the merchandise link… Edward’s face on my panties?? Um, can I just say… NOT! I don’t think any of it creeps me out as much as that does.
As for the series, I didn’t hate it. I read all four books in one weekend. I’m starting to think maybe the publisher has laced the paper with heroine, but I will admit that there was something about it that kept me flipping the pages. Not that there wasn’t a lot that bugged me as a writer, but I’ll leave those comments to the reviewers. What bothered me as the aunt of two young girls, though, was what I consider to be a bad, if not dangerous, example of “romance”. I don’t think the books are particularly romantic, though I’ve had grown women argue the point with me. What concerned me was all these young girls thinking that the Edward/Bella relationship was just sooo wonderful. When I finished the books (I borrowed them from my eldest niece, who was 13 at the time) I asked my sister if she’d read them and when she said no I felt the overwhelming need to sit the girls down and have a frank discussion. I told them that the books might seem very romantic to a 13-year-old but at 33, with a few relationships under my belt, I needed to impart some hard-earned wisdom. Mainly, if a boy is an ass to you and then all of a sudden decides he loves you and can’t live without you and is underfoot 24/7 except when you’re in the bathroom… you need to run as fast as you can in the other direction! It might work in fiction with a vampire (though it didn’t do much for me) but, as I’ve said here before, in real life that sort of thing only leads to restraining orders and threats to fire bomb your house. And also that they should take New Moon as a cautionary tale of how a girl should NOT react when some jerk dumps her. I think Bella reacts as Bella would, but I also think it’s a dangerous example to set for young girls. Not to mention I find nothing romantic or worth praising about Edward going off to commit suicide just because he thinks Bella is dead. Now, I’m not saying that my own characters will always react to bad situations in a rational and healthy manner, but then again I don’t write for impressionable young girls either. Thank God! So I’ve pounded my opinions into my nieces’ little teen and tween heads until I hope that they can enjoy the books for what they are- entertaining stories- and not see Bella as anyone to be emulated or Edward’s bossy, stalkery, possessive behavior as anything you’d want in a man. (Anyone but me notice that he treats her like he’s her father a lot of the time and he’s always telling her what to do, or what he thinks is best, regardless of what she wants?) Thankfully my girls come from a family that has been very matriarchal for generations (I almost feel sorry for the men who marry us!) and I don’t really worry about them growing up to be strong, independent women.
Come on, I was getting you Edward Panties for Christmas!!
You are so evil! I just got a shiver of ickiness at the mental picture of me wearing Edward Panties. I swear, girl, if you give me nightmares… lol…
rotflmao!!! Could be worse, could be Edward undies AND straw filled! LOL
I’ve heard quite a few mom friends of mine worry about the exact same thing Jenna just talked about.
I’m glad Kaitlyn has zero interest in the whole Twilight craze. She thinks it’s dumb. LOL!
She’s all over Vampire Diaries though! That’s mah girl *wink*
I heard some teens in Walmart a few weeks ago, one girl goes “Ohh Vampire Diaries, I didn’t know it was a book” and her friend goes “Yeah it came out after Twilight”. I wanted to say something sooo bad, no you evil little teen, it came out in 1991!! Before Twilight!!!!
Aw come on… you know you wanted to say it… “We all read them before you were even born, honey!” I gave the Vampire Diaries to eldest niece for Christmas last year. And then they made a TV series out of them. And, let me tell you, that made Auntie Jenna look WAY cooler than I really am!
Oh you so know I almost said something! lol
I admit it was easy to get sucked in and addicted to the books, even though I have to agree… what was with Edward? He was emotionless through out the series!
I think Twilight could had been made into a better movie, I think they should had casted someone who didnt have chest hair and the “sparkling” effect was cheesy. I’m a bit mad they ruined the movie. Shoulda just kept it a book!
I agree, but money talks and they saw the amount of sales and decided on the movie. Now the sales of the book are higher and the books here are hardcover now, so more expensive.
Glad to know I’m not alone in wanting all this to be over with. Thank you for the links. I needed a good laugh today.
You are most welcome
