13 Days of Wicked Christmas With Dakota Cassidy

XmasRED

ROCKnROLL_6Welcome to Writings of a Wicked Book Addict, Dakota! Nice that you finally cleared your busy schedule for little old me ;)

DC:  I had two minutes between manicures and my Brazillian wax, so I figured the least I could do was throw you at least a minute five :)

No, seriously, thank you for having me. LOL

WLP: Since this is supposed to be all Christmas-Like, what’s been the best Christmas gift you have received?

DC: OMG—by far the best gift I’ve ever gotten was the Barbie Dream House back in the days of yore before electricity, the Internetz and Amazon shopping.

WLP: What about given? What did you get ME?

DC: You know, I can’t recall any super awesome gift I’ve given anyone… So I guess you know where that leaves you and your gift, right? Tee hee.

WLP: Do you have any traditions for the holidays?

DC: No matter what, we have weenies in a blanket. If we were living under a bridge, I’d have to produce or I’d be voted off the island.

AccidentallyDemonicWLP: Moving away from the holidays, your next book: Accidently Demonic is out February 2010, can you tell us about it?

DC: This accidental surrounds Casey, Wanda’s sister and well, stuff happens and she’s turned into a demon. And then it gets worse. A lot worse. How’s that?

WLP: How many books are currently in store for the Accidental Series?

DC: No set in stone plans at this point, but if another “oops” idea comes to me, I’ll give it another whirl

WLP: Who has been your favorite character to write in the series?

DC: I can’t choose because they really are like kids, dude. I love them all for different reasons. So forget it if you thought I was going to let you rile Nina enough to come slap this bitch down

WLP: If you could write in another genre, what would you write in?

DC: I’m doing it right now—I’m writing a contemporary series based on ex-trophy wives and loving ever, torturous moment of it. But I’d also like to tap a YA :)

WLP: What has been your favorite thing about being a writer?

DC: I can make up the perfect friends? LOL—no, I’m kidding. I spend 10-12 hours a day off somewhere in my imagination :)

WLP: I know you are a die hard Rock Band fan, what’s your favorite song to play too?

untitledDC: I have several. My latest is Point Of No Return by Kansas. I LOVE that, but I have many I enjoy. Run To The Hills comes to mind, too :)

WLP: What’s the last song from RB that you downloaded?

DC: Tie Your Mother Down by Queen. So fun!

WLP: What’s new pussycat?

DC: Uh, I’m Never Gonna Fall In Love? No, wait—Delilah! Green, Green Grass of Home? Are we done with Tom Jones—how ‘bout some Barry Manilow? Exactly where are we going with this question?

WLP: Are you as funny as I think you are? Or is it all an act to confuse us poor readers? What do YOU find funny?

DC: Snort. No, I don’t think I’m funny even a little. I’m confused by that label never mind the poor readers. LOLLOL. I find people funny, attitudes, RL situations. I can find a reason to snark on almost anything.

WLP: I just read that you actually were an online reviewer prior to actually writing? SERIOUSLY? What did you do when the book you were reviewing was horrible? Were you upfront about it? Now as a writer do you feel guilty for giving bad reviews?

DC: Yes, that’s true. I reviewed a gozillion books for a site in like a year before I wrote my own, and yes, if I didn’t like a book, I was honest. I was honest with humor, though—which was what led me to writing.

I was never afraid to review a book and be truthful about my op, but I always did it with a joke attached, and I tired to find a redeeming factor for the read. Probably yet another reason reviews saying my characters are sluts and I write like a kindergartner doesn’t upset me. I’ve always been okay with opinions—everyone has one, and if you don’t like my books, I hope you find someone else’s you do like :)

WLP: What has been your favorite book in 2009?

DC: Dream a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

RT2009008WLP: Finally, the next author up is Mark Henry…ask Mark ANYTHING you want and he HAS to answer……

DC: Darling Mark,Do you think I’m prettier than Jaye Wells and Nicole Peeler? Love, Dakota

WLP: I want to thank Dakota for being the kick off to 13 Wicked Days of Christmas! Couldn’t have had a funnier/weirder start ;) xoxo

Great interview…learned a lot. LMAO. Dakota you crack me up. Hey my fav Xmas present was a Barbie Dream House also. I’m pawning off my repressed childhood on my daughter also—guess what she is getting for Christmas??? I must have missed the review about your writing like a kindergartner…cause all I’ve seen are great reviews. Looking forward to reading Demonic. Great interview, had me laughing.

Love your Accidentally series and am looking forward to reading your new genre of books. You bring humor into your writing and I find myself laughing out loud as I read. Which is awesome when I am riding the lightrail and people think I am nuts (they generally don’t want to sit next to crazy people) So keep up the great work and have an awesome Holiday season with your family!

  • Kathleen Pearlman December 14, 2009 at 10:18 am

I aven’t read any of Ms. Cassidy’s books, but after reading the excerpt on her website, I thik I will try. I’m not a big paranormal reader – Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs are about the only ones I’ve read (although Shanna Swendson’s Witches might fall into this category, too). I mostly read mysteries. But vampires and werewolves seem to have become the next big thing. I work at a library, so I’m on to the upcoming books via word of mouth.
Dakotaa, hon, your books sound like thy’d fascinate the women who read bunches!
Y’all have a great Yule – God bless and keep writing.

  • Tamsyn T. December 14, 2009 at 10:21 am

Great interview! I had fun reading it. And the cover for Accidentally Demonic is, dare I say it, cute! That must be Casey. Looking forward to checking it out.
    Happy Holidays!

  • BadBarb December 14, 2009 at 10:23 am

Dakota I think you are prettier then Jaye Wells and Nicole Peeler (maybe this will get me prize :) ). Which character is most like you? and which character is the least like you?

  • Jackie O'Mullane December 14, 2009 at 10:41 am

I have not heard about your books. Adding to my tbr pile.

I am very ashamed to say that I do not tknow this autor!!! I am so sorry I have to put you on my list!!! Good luck for your new projects!!!

  • Maggi G. December 14, 2009 at 1:06 pm

Dakota – you are so funny! You and Pink could be sisters! LOL That’s a HUGE compliment in my book! Happy Holidays! Can’t wait for February!

  • Dakota Cassidy December 14, 2009 at 1:12 pm

    Afternoon, all!

So sorry I’m late to the party, but I wrote until the wee hours last night, and typically, I don’t get up until about 11 or 12 :)

Barb–I’m tellin’ Jaye you said that. Yer in mondo trouble. LOLLOL. Definitely I’m most like Nina on the inside. She says what I think (snort), I’m like Marty on the outside because I love clothes and makeup. And I’m a lot like Wanda because I can be pretty diplomatic given a situation that needs it. But I’m most like Maxine in my ex-trophy wives series. YOu’ll just have to wait to find out why :)

Maggi–you’re the second person who’s said that about me. I just don’t see it, but I wouldn’t be sad if I had her body–or her money flow. LOL

Natasha–dude, the print is so small on my reply, if I make typos, it’s on you! LOL

Everyone else–Muwah! Thank you for popping in.

    DC :)

  • Kimberly M. December 14, 2009 at 1:14 pm

What a fantastic interview! You never fail to make me laugh, Dakota! Pixie, this a wicked site. Thank you, Dakota, for letting me know about this. Happy Holidays!

  • Rosie Carlo December 14, 2009 at 1:22 pm

Hey Dakota, thanks for stopping by. Loved reading your interiew . . . you had me cracking up!

  • Elaine R December 14, 2009 at 1:27 pm

I haven’t had weenies in a blanket since I was kid. How do you make those again? To be honest, I haven’t read any of your books, but you crack me up on Twitter, so I put you on my ‘investigate’ list. I am currently into YAs, and based on your humor alone, I would definitely buy yours.

  • Dakota Cassidy December 14, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Oh, Elaine. Don’t be talkin’ crazy now. I’d skip the investigation and close the case on reading one of my books. LOLLOL. And OMG–weenies in a blanket–cocktail weenies and some crescent rolls. You slice up the rolls, wrap a weenie in ‘em, cook according to the directions on the package for the rolls. Easy-and sort of all the major nutrients in a fully balanced meal if you’re not into rules. LMAO

    DC :)

  • Qwill December 14, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Just stopping in to say “hi” and how much I enjoyed the interview. LOL :) Twas awesome.

  • Moonsanity December 14, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Dakota- you seem so hip, like you have some street cred. How did this happen? I feel the need to be hip, and apply it to my writing, but don’t want to sound lame. Any suggestions on how to improve my own street cred? Oh, and I hope that Brazillian wax goes good for ya:)

    • Dakota Cassidy December 14, 2009 at 2:05 pm

Hmmm, hip, you say? Hip replacement, maybe. LOLLOL. Actually, I love slang. I love words that are nonsensical and become trends. A lot of that comes from watching way too much reality TV, featuring kids who’re like 20, and my son’s who are 19 and 15 respectively. I think I just always have my ear open for what I consider funny or trendy then I take it and use it in my writing. I don’t know that I realized I did it until several reviewers commented on it.

And you go on and write whatevahthehell you wants, lady! Don’t let anyone stop you, as long as it comes across natural, not forced, yer golden :)

      Hugs,DC :)

  • Judy Cox December 14, 2009 at 2:16 pm

  • Moonsanity December 14, 2009 at 2:31 pm

My teens are 15 and 16. I call them Angry Teen and Psuedo Emo Teen. They love teasing me with slang, especially if it involves body parts. They know I will make “mom faces” at that. BAHAHAHAHAHAHA Thanks Dakota. I’m getting what you’re putting down.

    • Dakota Cassidy December 14, 2009 at 2:35 pm

LOLLOL–I LOVE those labels, now use them in your writing!!! Awesome sauce :)
