WLP Wants To Know: Ghosts

My friend Synde gave me the idea for todays post since my brain refused to help me out, Ghosts. I can go on for days with ghost stories & experiences with ghosts. I’ll tell you a few, just cause I’m all about sharing.

When I was little, my sisters sister in-law lived in this amazing old farm house & we’d spend a lot of time there. Since I was little, I don’t have any personal memories of things freaking me out but I was recently talking to sis in-law about the farm house. All sorts of weirdness would happen there, cabinet doors slamming, noises, a ton of stuff that my brain refuses to remember the details of but for one story. Anyways, one night they got into bed, tucked in and went to sleep. When they woke up in the morning the bed had been made with them in it! Tucked around them and all. Yep, they moved pretty fast after that one.

When I was 16, I worked at an old movie theatre, you know the older than dirt ones that show old movies. My best-friend was my assistant manager, so we’d work a lot of our shifts together along with the old dude that ran the projector. One night our phone in our office rang, call display said it was from the projectors booth. Hmm…the projectors booth phone NEVER EVER worked. We looked at each other & had a WTF moment, I picked up the phone & it was hollow…then breathing. I dropped the phone & ran upstairs to the projector room…the projectionist PASSED me on the way up the stairs. He wasn’t even in his office when the phone called downstairs. Yep, I ran back downstairs without even going near the locked projector room. Screw that. Another time I was in the washroom with the best-friend checking before we left for the night & the stall doors started swinging wildly & banging shut & open.

My first ”adult job” was at a Court House (Old City Hall in Toronto), lucky for me it’s one of  Toronto’s top 5 haunted places. Ha. My office was on the main floor and being that I worked in an office that had heavy criminal traffic, I had a bullet proof window to talk to “clients” through. You know the kind that have the little opening at the bottom so you can slip your papers through? In anycase, there would be times when I stood there to fill out some paperwork & I would get cold wind gusts strong enough to blow my hair. Umm…through about a fingers nail length of room? I worked in that office for around 4 years & that was really the only “strange” occurrence I had there. But I know cops who have been scared to death in that building.

Fast forward around 4 years when I came back to work as a Court Clerk. I would have to open whatever court room I was in that night (I worked Night Court) and I’d get the odd feeling of someone being around, but never saw anything. The worst was after a long night of Court, sometimes I’d be there until 11pm, ALONE. I am sure there was someone sitting in the room with me, just that feeling of being watched to the point I wouldn’t finish my paperwork in the Court Room, I’d RUN to my office & lock myself in then call Court Security to let them know I was still in the building. But again, I never saw anything. Just the sense of someone there was enough for me thank you very much. I would always say Hi whenever I entered a Court Room & Bye when I left. No sense in pissing anyone off right?

So today’s WLP Wants to Know is: Do you believe in Ghosts? Do you have your own Ghost Story?

I’ve never seen one personally, although i’ve been in places that give you that…weird feeling.

Now my mom’s side of the family? Man, have THEY seen them. I’ve got enough stories from them that I could almost make a book of it…and I’m even considering it, a memoir of sorts, to keep the stories going because sooner or later, everybody that knows the well will be gone.

I feel years ago, I saw little boy running down the hall. I thought nothing off it at first but just remember he was wearing a blue shirt.. I thought it was my nephew. But then I saw my nephew pass by in a red shirt. And I was like whoa! Never saw that little ‘ghost’ boy again, but it sure tripped me out, lol.

I couple of months ago I was taking a shower. I was alone except for my sister but she was knocked out in her room and hardly ever heads upstairs to my room. Anyway, while I was showering, I heard something get knocked down. It was loud bang. But I just finished my shower and peaked out to my room and noticed my lamp was on the floor laying sideways. The thing that’s weird is that it was already on the floor but no way it could have flipped on its side on the floor. I don’t have any open windows in my room so I can come up with was that resident ghost(s) didn’t like the music I was playing while I was showering.. lol

Those are just a few of the ghost stories I have dealt with while living at my house.

well yeah I have seen a ton..My apt building was built somewhere between 1912 and 1915..I have heard varying accounts. one night my friend Willow and I were walking down the hall to her apt( i lived on the 2nd floor she lived on the 4th) and we saw a man in a brown suit and hat carrying a shotgun..he was turning the hall corner..we of course started calling and ran to the corner but he was gone. At that time there were two ladies that had lived in the building since the 40′s(they have since passed) so we asked them if they thought this man sounded familiar.. Well Violet the older of the two said it sounded like one of the old managers who used to patrol the halls at night with a shotgun! She said it was because there were some Alcohol problems in th building during those years..Wow
Also about once a week I wake up around 4 to the sound of my door handle rattling and then footsteps by my bed that go into the kitchen..( i live in a studio) it has happened 4 ten years so I barely notice any more..nor do the cats..
    it’s a freaky place

You should try and find the history of your building, I love looking into stuff like that. Mines new (well 1990) but the place beside it isn’t, and its hella haunted.

Only one I have is I used to live in this house with a roomie that had a haunted corner. It was right between the doorway to the kitchen and the one to the hall, and just inside the hall the doorway to a bedroom. Bit of a high traffic spot but there was enough room for a nice, deep, floor-to-nearly-ceiling bookshelf.

Which is exactly what we had a there for a long time. Never had a problem with books staying on it but anything else you put on it would eventually fall off. We, being the kind of guys we are, just put the stuff back on the shelves and ignored it aside from the occasional wisecrack about the ghost.

That went on for a couple of years until our third roomie moved in and actually got bothered by it. Me and Initial Roomie, of course, immediately took the opportunity to aim a couple weeks of good-natured ridicule at him over it. But hey, I’m a problem solving kind of guy, so I moved the bookshelf to another wall. The space was immediately claimed by roomie #3′s stationary bicycle and we never had an issue with the corner again. Thus the ghost was exercised.

It also turns out that if you stood in that corner, while someone else walked around almost anywhere in the house, you got bounced up and down enough that it was easily noticeable. That part of the story doesn’t lend itself to terrible puns quite as easily though, so I usually leave out this last bit.

Bleh, forgot to answer the actual question. No, I don’t believe in ghosts. I don’t disbelieve in them either. Further, I’m not undecided on the matter. I simply figure that ghosts either exist or they don’t and no amount of (dis)believing on my part is going to make a bit of difference.

I figure it’s kind of like Antarctica. Unless you’re really connected, neither you nor anybody you know has ever been there to see it with their own eyes. We just take it on faith that the rest of the world isn’t having a joke at our expense. That’s a lot worse record than ghosts have. Fact remains though that Antarctica will sit down there being cold as hell, or possibly not, regardless of whether we believe in it. Same with ghosts.

When I was in high school, I woke up in the middle of the night with a white figure and a swirling black face standing over me. I was so scared I couldn’t move and just lay there with my eyes shut, waiting for the thing to leave.
The next day my Aunt told me that my grandfather died in that room.
To this day, I’m not sure if I actually saw something or if I was having some sort of waking dream. All I know is that it scared the holy hell out of me.

Like Shiloh, I personally haven’t seen a ghost. I’d probably wet myself if I did.

My family, though, has some doozies. My older brother, when he was a kid, used to talk about his ‘friend’ that would sometimes visit him in the night. Mum was, understandably, a might worried and asked Steve to describe the man. Apparently, he described my mum’s cousin to a T. This cousin died before my brother was born.

There was a place my folks lived in before I came along where things would fly across the room from the top of the fridge to hit, and subsequently, shatter on the opposite wall and all kinds of other nasty stuff. My parents didn’t stay there long!

Although I’ve never seen an apparition, I did have the feeling I was never alone in an apartment I rented for a couple of years. It was a weird feeling at first, but I quickly got used to it. Nothing was thrown at my head or whatever, so I figured whoever it was liked me well enough. I called her Mavis. :)

I got stories all day. I live only a few minutes from one of the most haunted cities in the US, Atchison KS. It lays claim to the Sallie House, the Benedictine college… Further, I worked at a prison that’s said to be haunted. Most of the older ones have ghost stories.

I was doing a security check in one of the admin buildings. It had been shut down for the night. This building used to be the old “hole”. Lots of violence and blood spilled here. There was a place in the basement where in the old days, inmates would be tied up and forced to bail water with their hands tied behind their backs, they’d have to use their chins on this hand-pump to keep from drowning. Anyway, I’d been told the building was haunted, so I figured there would be a round of let’s screw with the newbie. I’m doing these checks and I keep getting the feeling that there’s someone just around the corner. Finally, I come to the last corner and I turn this corner, I’m pratcially choking on the anticipation. I fully expected another officer to jump out or startle me, but there’s nothing. Then I feel stupid, thinking I just let these guys work me up by telling these stories. Until I feel a cold hand on my shoulder and I turn around and there’s no one there. Needless to say, hauling ass was given new meaning.

My family had been living in our new house for a few weeks when we found out the previous owner had killed himself. We lived in a small town so it was shocking, everyone knew him. A few months later my mom was home alone and she saw the guy standing in our living room. She said he looked so real it was frighting. She screamed and went nuts and ran out of the house. She only saw him one time, she probably scared him off with her screaming. lol Thank goodness I never saw anything cause I would have moved my ass out. She didn’t tell us about this until both me and my brother were gone cause she didn’t want to freak us out.

I LOVE a good ghost story! I’m kinda on the fence about ghosts, I’m open minded and I’ve had a few experiences but I’m not sure what to make of them. But I love hearing/reading stories like this and scaring the crap out of myself!

One of my friends, her house is apparently haunted and some of the stories she’s told me, well *shudders*. I stayed there one night not long after I first met her and she warned me and I’m like ‘whatever’. I woke up in the middle of the night and I could hear someone running up and down the corridor. I thought it was her younger brother coming home late with their mum, but the more I sat up the slower the running steps became. Once I’d sat upright and turned to look at the door the running stopped outside her door. Needless to say my heart was in my throat and I forced myself to sleep. Told her about it the next morning and she said he mother hadn’t come home that night. *shudders*

There’s been other things in previous houses I’ve lived in. Once I swore my dad woke me up, left my room and went downstairs as it was a really tall figure. I ran out of my room to complain to my mum that he’d woken me up and it turned out my dad was in the shower and hadn’t been in my room.

There’s others, but I’ve always managed to convince myself it’s something else. I dunno, I want to believe there’s something out there, but I just don’t want that something coming out and proving it to me though lol

Ghost story or Nightmare I’m not sure……when I was very small like maybe 6 or 7 my mother decided to put the 3 girls into 1 Room.
The room was shaped like an L my older sister ‘s bed was in the long narrow space that night I woke in the middle of the night with a feeling of Terror when I turned over I saw a very small man by my sisters bed but was looking at me laughing.
I turned over to face the was thinking it a dream rolled over a 2nd time to see the man choking her. It was then I started Screaming woke both my sisters My mother & father .
When I told them about the man they said I was sleeping & dreaming…
Maybe I was but I saw that man many times by that room.
If he was real or my Imagination he scared the CRAP out of me ….
Do I believe in Ghosts or the other world ABSOFREAKINGLOOTLY.
On a side NOTE when I came to Canada we stayed with my Sister the one the man was choking the rocking chair in the Bedroom next to mine moved at night…
I think he followed her here……
