The situation is grave. Vampires are vamping. Werewolves are shape shifting. And zombies are lurching into the garden. Is this modern-day ferment of paranormal activity, ah, normal? Learn all about it in this nifty new pocket guide to man’s best fiends: VAMPIRES, WEREWOLVES, ZOMBIES: Compendium Monstrum.

Compendium Monstrum is full of useful information, should you get yourself into a situation where you need to defend yourself against the “Big Three”. It is a collection of 19th century maps, facts & sketches by Max Strum a Professor for well over 500 years & Baron Ludwig Von Drang, who has personal experience with such creatures. Compendium Monstrum is a field guide into the world of the paranormal, sorta like a travel guide…not like you’d want to travel to some of these places. Right? *shudders* There’s even times when to and when not to visit Transylvania.

There are facts that even I didn’t know, for example did you know Garlic is a part of the Lily family? Nope, me either. There’s also facts about Sparkly Vampire’s and they existed long before that other dude decided to sparkle. My favorite parts of the book are the Warning Signs for Vamps, Weres & Zombies.

Zombie Indicators:

  • Does the subject drag his/her feet (that’s actually my biggest pet peeve, who knew they were actually zombies!!)
  • Is the subject “zombiedextrous” – neither left – nor right-handed, but featuring rigid, outstreched arms?
  • Does the subject lack a sense of humor? (again, I had no idea my tax man was a zombie!!)

There’s maps that show you:

  • Vampires Around The World
  • Weres Around The World
  • Zombies Around The World

Which trust me, will come in very handy if we are ever attacked! Have I mentioned the book is pocket sized for that very reason? Seriously, who can keep track of what is fact and what is fiction nowadays? Can Vamps go out in the sun? What scares away a zombie? Should you run from a were?

The artwork contained in the Compendium, done by Bruce Walman, is a great addition to the text within the pages.

Compendium Monstrum is a must have for any reader who loves them some Vamps, Shifter’s or Zombies. It might just save your life or make you giggle out loud.
