John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown. Taken in by The Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was-or his true identity.

Xhex has long steeled herself against the attraction to John Matthew. Until fate intervenes and she discovers that love, like destiny, is inevitable.

There’s quite a few story-lines going in Lover Mine even though this is John Matthew & Xhex’ book it really deals with a lot more than just those two. We start out with Xhex still missing & John Matthew realizing just how much she means to him, he’ll do anything to find her even if it means not telling the BDB about his relationship with Xhex. He even goes to speak with iAm & Trez (Rehv’s boys) to ask them for help in locating Xhex.

Xhex on the other hand is still trying to escape her capture, which has her cloaked in a hidden spell that only lets her capture see her. Even in the same room with her, she can’t be found & it’s up to her to escape or die. She is also realizing somethings about her time with Mhurder & doesn’t want to go down the same road with John Matthew, even if she likes him she feels that everything she touches goes wrong.

Then we have Blay still trying to deal with his lust for his best-friend Qhuinn, even though Qhuinn is still sleeping with anyone with legs (but Blay). There are some pretty tense moments between the two of them, so much so their friendship my not survive. Add Saxon, Qhuinn’s cousin to the mix who has a thing for Blay.

There’s a diary that belonged to Darius, John Matthews father, which has us going back in time (1600′s) & learning more about Darius & Tohr’s relationship, from how they met to who they saved. It really brings the story full circle & gives you that “Whoa!” feeling by the end of it.

Tohr is still trying to get back into fighting shape & deal with the death of Wellsie & their unborn child. As well as his relationship with John Matthew, which badly needs to be repaired.

We also get to visit the Far Side, the home of the Chosen & learn about Payne who has been training with Wrath because she doesn’t want to be a member of the Chosen. She only feels alive when she is sparing with Wrath & the Scribe Virgin refuses to let her leave the Far Side.

There as still Lessers, more & more of them are being made but there are some big changes when something bizarre starts to happen to Lash….

Finally we have a TV Crew of Ghost Hunters who hear about a haunted Bed & Breakfast that is supposedly the home of ghost Eliahu Rathboone. When the Butler tells them not to go to the third floor, you know someones going up there.

In one word, wow. Honestly, it’s hard to wrap my thoughts into a tiddy review for Lover Mine because I am still going, wow. From start to finish, Lover Mine just keeps moving! There are some pretty big twists & even bigger turns, a few times my jaw dropped. Even a few tears were shed, good ones & sad ones. One particular moment of tears shed featured the U2 song, All I Want Is You (my favorite). Xhex’ strength & John Matthews love for her, really keep this book going. Though they are the main focus of the book, the surrounding drama sometimes was a bit more interesting (Blay & Qhuinn, whoa!) Of course there are some funny moments as well, but it’s truly the passion, strength & focus that leads this book.

Lover Mine reminded me of Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon in it’s depth, you go forward but you also go backwards & the series as a whole starts to make more sense as to why this person does that & this person is angry/upset for this reason. For that reason, this book does NOT stand alone you truly have to read the series as a whole for it to make sense. But new fans & old fans will LOVE this addition to the series, I can honestly say it was the best book in the series & the most in depth view at some of the major characters in the BDB. We even find out who named Xhex….

My favorite quote in Lover Mine was from Tohr:

You never knew the last time you were seeing someone. You didn’t know when the last argument happened, or the last time you had sex, or the last time you looked into their eyes and thanked God they were in your life.

Lover Mine is the best of the BDB series, so much so I am tempted to put aside my to be read pile to read it again. It was just that good!
