When friends stop trusting each other, Darkness is there to fan the flames….Things have turned black at the House of Night. Zoey Redbird’s soul has shattered. With everything she’s ever stood for falling apart, and a broken heart making her want to stay in the Otherworld forever, Zoey’s fading fast. It’s seeming more and more doubtful that she will be able pull herself back together in time to rejoin her friends and set the world to rights. As the only living person who can reach her, Stark must find a way to get to her. But how? He will have to die to do so, the Vampyre High Council stipulates. And then Zoey will give up for sure. There are only 7 days left…
Enter BFF Stevie Rae. She wants to help Z but she has massive problems of her own. The rogue Red Fledglings are acting up, and this time not even Stevie Rae can protect them from the consequences. Her kinda boyfriend, Dallas, is sweet but too nosy for his own good. The truth is, Stevie Rae’s hiding a secret that might be the key to getting Zoey home but also threatens to explode her whole world.
In the middle of the whole mess is Aphrodite: ex-Fledgling, trust-fund baby, total hag from Hell (and proud of it). She’s always been blessed (if you could call it that) with visions that can reveal the future, but now it seems Nyx has decided to speak through her with the goddess’s own voice, whether she wants it or not. Aphrodite’s loyalty can swing a lot of different ways, but right now Zoey’s fate hangs in the balance.
Three girls… playing with fire… if they don’t watch out, everyone will get Burned.
When the book blurb is that long, it’s a bit redundant for me to reiterate what happened isn’t it? ha.
Zoey is trapped in the Otherworld due to her soul shattering when Heath is killed by Kalona. Parts of her soul are scattered & all of her friends must work to first make her give up Heath & two put the pieces of herself back together before her body dies. In the meantime, Neferet has put Kalona in a trance like state to make sure Zoey dies. Then we have Stevie Ray dealing with her feelings for Rephaim in Tulsa & the other red fledglings who are causing all sorts of trouble.
I have to tell you all the honest truth, I did not enjoy this book at all. A few times I almost put it down & gave up on it. I found there were too many POV’s & it just didn’t flow properly in my head since they just jumped around. There’s Zoey, but she’s off as her souls shattered, Stark, Stevie Ray, Kalona & sometimes we hear from Heath & Aphrodite. I usually enjoy multiple POV’s & I like the House of Night Series, but this was just too much IMO. It was so choppy, you forgot what the heck that person before POV was, add to that excessive swearing that there was no need for.
And if you weren’t already confused by the multiple POV’s, lets throw in Scottland so we can use the dialect. Lovely.
The pace? Wait what pace? Snails crawl faster, honestly it was slow going. I read pretty fast, but this took me 5 days to read because it didn’t seem to be going anywhere. It was more filler than substance & plot, I get it save Zoey.
On top of it, this is a teen series but the language used was more tailored to pre-teens. It’s repetitive & everything is explained over & over again which makes the reader feel uneducated or unable to grasp what the authors were talking about. While the HoN series was always repetitive (the Twins anyone?) this is an all new level of irritation for me. The cake at the end? Nothing was resolved.
Either way, I am Burned & done with this series. I really can’t put it any nicer.
I’m sorry you didn’t like it.
I haven’t read this series-and have no plans to-but had heard good things.
The first to third books yes, now to me it’s like they’re dragging
I HATE when a book talks to me like I’m stoopid. Gah, I’m so busy being pissed that I can’t be bothered to care about what’s going on. Sorry, it was irritating.
Thanks for the review
It really did talk to you like you couldn’t figure things out on your own, hated that.
it feels like dragging and i dont know how PC cast want to drag ot till book 12?whoaa..
I just wish they’d be done with it already, even make a spin off.
I actually liked this one. The last two were horrible. I think I liked it more because Zoey wasn’t it in so much whining about all the boy drama.Stevie Rae and Raphaim’s POV were the best. As for the swearing that didn’t bother me..I’d rather that than the half swearing(bullpoopie..come on who says that) in the last books that ticked me off.And I’m so glad we didn’t have any of that twin speak..ughh that is annoying to no end.
To each their own, but you gotta remember the swearing may not bother you but its listed as a YA right?

As the series continued I was really disappointed and so with this book I did not buy it. I am waiting for a library copy to become available.
I must admit I was not waiting to read this one and even more so now!
Ths for the honest review WLP!
Can’t wait to hear what you think Chas, let me know when you get to it.
I have yet to read this one. I’ve read the first few and I liked them, but as it goes on it just seems to obvious of what’s going to happen. I think I got sick of the love triangle pretty quickly.. but I really do I like the series, from what I’ve read so far anyway. Hehe
I also wanted to let you know I have a Award for you over at my blog.

Aww ty Natasha 2
I think I liked this one the best out of all of the books actually. I much preferred the different POV’s to Zoey’s. I hadn’t thought of her so much as the annoying one, but she must be a big part of it. I REALLY liked Stevie Rae and Rephaims POV’s though. I had been about to give up on this series but now I know I’ll continue.
To each their own, thats the great thing about reviews.
Thanks for the review. I read all the others, but the last one fell flat and I really did not think that this one would get any better. Thank you for confirming my suspsions. Can’t believe this has 12 books in total to go. I don’t want to even think about what it will be like then.
