WLP Gets An E-Reader

May 17, 2010 in Book News, E-Readers

Thursday, the boyfriend & I were Blackberry messaging back & forth about E-Readers.

I had looked at the Sony Reader Pocket Edition last summer & fell in love, but at $249.00 Canadian, it wasn’t happening. Then this month the Kobo E-Reader came out & I was hooked. Boyfriend did all sorts of research (so we thought) & it looked good to go, but he mentioned we’d talk more about it on Friday. Friday comes, boyfriend confesses to wanting to buy me an E-Reader for our anniversary next month but he’d buy it for me now if I wanted it that bad. Off we go to Chapters to check out the Kobo, alas they have not a single Kobo in store anywhere in Toronto, Mississauga or Etobicoke they also haven’t the slightest clue when the next shipment will come in. Hows that for excellent customer service? Someone tweeted me after I ranted about it, to check Walmart…so off we go to Walmart. You have NO idea what it meant to be in a Walmart with my boyfriend, people!! He doesn’t go there under any circumstance, but to take me on a Friday night…whoa. Guess what, no Kobo’s all sold out.

At this point I’m pissed, I’ve waited HOW long for a damn E-Reader & now I can’t have it!!! And then my friend tells me she’s been through not one, but two Kobo’s this month (amazing, they’ve only been out for 9 days at that point) she says the customer service is great but sorry I’m not buying a product that is hard to find & now I’m hearing has all sorts of issues.

Saturday we head to Best Buy & let me tell you we had the most knowledgeable salesman known to man. We were discussing the Sony’s & another lesser known brand that has an LCD screen as opposed to Sony’s E-Ink. The guy refused to sell us the other brand, he said it was a piece of junk. I was shocked, I’ve never been in a store where the person knows their stuff that well. He went on to tell us that company claimed battery life of whatever but it lasted no more than 4 hours & that everyone he’d seen buy one, returned it the next day! Whoa. I was sold on the Sony, it was $169.00 but the boyfriend & I had to discuss it. I said I’d pay for half, because it’s not cheap! More talking commenced, boyfriend googled….

Needless to say, we left with a new toy for Pixie. Ignore my nail polish, I’ve been busy reading.

I love it! It’s so much easier to read than on the computer or the DS. The bookmark feature does something for me, it makes me feel like a bad girl. Are you all going WTF Pix? Well it folds the “page” at the corner & we all know I don’t do that! It gives me a cheap thrill I tell you. It’s said to store 350 books & doesn’t have expandable memory which is perfectly fine with me. I’m never going anywhere that would require me to be carrying over 50 books at one time. It also doesn’t use WiFi to download books, you have to plug it into the computer. I’ve seen people bitch about that, but really if you are up in the air on a plane you can’t grab a book from the sky can you? So what’s the problem? Stock up FIRST.

Overall, I am so happy with it. It’s fast enough on the page flips, I can hold something in one hand & the reader in the other. I can stop & take notes without having to find my bookmark. And NOW I can really review E-Books!

What popped my E-Readers virginity? Stacia Kane’s Unholy Ghosts.

Yep, my boyfriend rules…hope he understands why I’m going to be quiet all this coming long weekend at the cottage…it’s all his fault.
