At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.

Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.

But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu.

As if starting high school isn’t hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?

In Infinity, we follow Nick Gautier as he discovers that not all is what it seems in New Orleans. When a student at his High School, attacks & eats another students arm, Nick learns fast that there are forces out there that he has to battle, if he doesn’t it could mean the end of the world. Nick is quickly thrown into the world of the Dark Hunters, immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.

Infinity is Sherrilyn Kenyon’s first YA novel based off of her Dark Hunter Series.

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect & had so many questions, for example would the Dark Hunter world translate well into a YA without leaving those who’ve not read the adult series lost? I can assure you, Mrs. Kenyon did a wonderful job on both counts, new YA readers will love the world & old DH fans will love reading about characters we know & love but as kids.

Long time fans will love that we see some of the names from the adult series but as children (Peltiers for example), Tabitha, there is Kyrian, Ash & best of all Simi! I love me some Simi & BBQ sauce, and she’s hilarious as ever.

We also learn more about Nick’s family background, we know his mother Cherise is a stripper who had Nick at 14. Her parents gave her the choice to get rid of Nick or they wouldn’t have anything to do with her, she chose Nick. Cherise would do anything for Nick, even if it means she has to strip to get money into the house or take hand me downs from Goodwill & even eating expired food. Cherise teaches Nick to study hard & be a good man, but the kids he goes to school with will do anything to make Nick lash out. Taunting him because of what his Mother does for a living to making fun of the clothing he has on. Those of us who have read the DH series, know what happens to Cherise. So it’s very bitter sweet. Of course Nick is full of snarky comments that make you instantly fall in love with him.

What I loved most about Infinity is that the main character, Nick, is a male which we don’t have many of in YA but even better this book would be great for male YA readers! It is an excellent way into the Dark Hunter world for YA’s, lucky them can read the Chronicles of Nick series (there will be 9 books in total from what I have heard) and then go into the Dark Hunter adult series. Long time fans, though a YA, Infinity is still packed with Keyon’s quick wit & humorus dialouge, the only difference is the lack of romance…but Nick does have a crush, so we’ll see how that develops.

Pick up a copy for the YA in your life & pick up a copy for yourself!
