A self-deprecating witch with the unique ability to reanimate the dead. A dangerously handsome warlock torn between being her boss and her would-be lover. A six hundred year old English vampire with his own agenda; one that includes an appetite for witches. The Underworld in a state of chaos. Let the games begin.
Life isn’t bad for psychic Jolie Wilkins. True, she doesn’t have a love life to speak of, but she has a cute house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, a cat and a quirky best friend.
Enter Rand Balfour, a sinfully attractive warlock who insists she’s a witch and who just might turn her life upside down. Rand hires her to help him solve a mystery regarding the death of his client who also happens to be a ghost. Jolie not only uncovers the cause of the ghost’s demise but, in the process, she brings him back to life!
Word of Jolie’s incredible ability to bring back the dead spreads like wildfire, putting her at the top of the Underworld’s most wanted list. Consequently, she finds herself at the center of a custody battle between a villainous witch, a dangerous but oh-so-sexy vampire, and her warlock boss, Rand.
Jolie is a psychic that has no idea that she is a witch. She runs her psychic “office” with her bestfriend and her life is relatively quiet, no man just her cat. All that changes when sexy Rand walks in and turns her life upside down.
Rand hires Jolie to help his client find out who killed someone, the someone now is a ghost. After a test, Jolie learns she can not only contact the dead but reanimate them. This revelation puts Jolie into a really big mess, every single undead wants her.
I have to start with the truth, as soon as I saw H.P. Mallory’s covers on another blog I fell instantly in love. Is that not one of the cutest covers you’ve ever seen? I’m never one to pick a book based on the cover, but I am happy I agreed to review this book.
H.P. Mallory is someone to watch out for, she’s snarky, unique and brings a breath of fresh air into the comedic paranormal romance/urban fantasy community.
The story, while short and sweet, is packed with a lot and it isn’t glossed over. I fell in love with the way H.P. Mallory tells a story, it’s very similar to some of my favorite authors in the way the characters are self deprecating and can snark with the best of them. Nevermind, Rand is one of the hottest warlocks out there and the tension is all sorts of intense! I just loved this book, my only issue was a few times it slowed down but other then that, love!
When I finished reading Fire Burn & Cauldron Bubble, I immediately got online to see when book 2 was going to be released and that says a lot about how much I loved it! Get yourself a copy STAT, seriously.
This looks like a good book! If only I had a Kindle…I’m starting to find so many excellent e books. I’m going to have to get a Kindle soon!
I just love comedic urban fantasy! I hope to write one 1 day, after my Regency comedy/mystery/romance is done…
I’m putting this book on my list.
Thx!

I just purchased this book a few days ago and could not put it down! I found myself waiting to get home from work to finish reading it. I immediately purchased the 2nd book because I just can not get enough of this story! I enjoyed Jolie’s growth as the story went on and the tension between Joie and Rand was amazing! Just when you think you are comfortable with the direction of the story it takes a huge surprise turn in another fantastic direction that you never saw coming. I just love it!
