Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

Charlotte “Charley” Davidson, yes Charley Davidson, sees dead people. It’s her job, well one of them, as the grim reaper, to convince them to go into the light….the light being her. But when the dead have been taken by not so good circumstances, Charley works with her detective Uncle & the dead themselves to bring their murderers to justice.

Adding to her issues with the dead are hot night dreams that she has been having, along with an entity that has been following her all her life. Charley is a disaster waiting to happen.

I absolutely loved Darynda Jones’ debut! It reminded me of early Mary Janice Davidson, the snark, the wit & the fast paced action BRILLIANT. I sat down this morning with my coffee to start the book and in between laundry & cleaning, I read the entire book in less then 12 hours. It captured my attention right from the first line:

I’d been having the same dream for the past month – the one where a dark stranger materialized out of smoke and shadows to play doctor with me.

Hello?! Heat, Darynda Jones, she brings it. Charley is awesome, I feel in love with her on the first page & the love-fest continued right until the last page. She gets herself into all sorts of situations that make her look crazy, but she works crazy like I work a nice pair of shoes.

There was also heat, lots and lots of heat. None of which I can share with you because it would ruin the last few chapters of the book, suffice to say I may have worked up a little sweat here or there. It was getting hot in here and it wasn’t that damn song either.

The pace was nice and fast, obviously if I finished it in hours. I had a hard time putting it down when the phone rang & found myself reading while eating every meal I had. The ending damn near killed me, can you say cliff hanger?

A hysterical debut that will make you laugh & wish you knew the grim reaper…..& an entity or two!

Haha, love this review! “she works crazy like I work a nice pair of shoes.” LOL. Love it! Sounds like a very interesting book. The price made me step back and wonder if this was going to be worth it but from what your review states I’m thinking that’s a YES! :-) I’ll have to check this book out.

“…she works crazy like I work a nice pair of shoes.” BAH!

I’m suppose to be reading this next week, but I’m not sure I can wait that long. It sounds like it’s gonna be just as good as I wanted it to be. Huzzah!

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book. Right now i’m listening to it on audiobook and so far, so good! It’s like the Ghost Whisperer meets Stephanie Plum!
