13 Wicked Days of Christmas With Allison Pang

Next up in The Thirteen Wicked Days of Christmas we bring you Allison Pang! She is most definitely a WLP Favorite. A Brush of Darkness was one of our favorite new books and series of 2011, so check her out!

What’s next for you book-wise in 2012?

The next two Abby Sinclair books will be out – A Silver of Shadow on Feb 28, and A Trace of Moonlight (tentative title) in October.  Also, I’m starting up a web-comic/graphic novel project for fun that should be out in the spring. (http://www.sadsausagedogs.com –just a placeholder there for now, but hopefully I’ll get something up there soon.)

What is the worst gift you’ve ever received or given?

Hmmm. I think the worst was when I needed to give a gift and I had a family member tell me they’d take care of it and gave me an already wrapped present…which I gave, sight unseen, to the recipient…and it was basically just some leftover/dusty stuff from the person’s house. (I’m being somewhat purposefully vague here, but I was pretty horrified.) Lesson learned. >_<

What is your favorite Holiday food?

Meringues. I make them once a year around this time. And egg nog. :D

What is your least favorite Holiday song?

Honestly, for whatever reason Santa Claus is Coming to Town just irritates the hell out of me. It shouldn’t. But it does.

Do you have any Holiday traditions?

Not specifically. Although…see the next question…

Any favorite Holiday memories?

This is a weird one, but my mother was a middle school teacher, so every year around Christmas, she’d get all sorts of gifts from her students. Candy and homemade stuff, usually. A lot of ornaments. One year she got a stuffed bear head with some holly glued on the bottom. Not a bear. Just the head. She was horrified, but my brother and I insisted it be put on the tree anyway because it was just completely messed up.  And every year, we dragged that bear head ornament out and put it right in the front and center of the tree. (For at least the last 20 years now.)

And last year, my dad passed the bear head to me, so now it goes on my tree.

Allison's Christmas Bear Head

If you could share one lesser known fact about yourself with our readers, what would it be?

I only wear sunglasses with blue lenses. (Small wireframe sorts). Therefore I’m always on the lookout for them because they have a tendency to break and disappear and no one seems to make them anymore.

Thank you so much, Ms. Pang, for agreeing to let us interview you! We looooooove your books so hard, and are so happy we get to see you again in New Orleans for Authors After Dark 2012!

A marine biologist in a former life, Allison Pang turned to a life of crime to finance her wild spending habits and need to collect Faberge eggs. A cat thief of notable repute, she spends her days sleeping and nights scaling walls and wooing dancing boys….Well, at least the marine biology part is true. But she was taloned by a hawk once.  She also loves Hello Kitty, sparkly shoes, and gorgeous violinists.

She spends her days in Northern Virginia working as a cube grunt and her nights waiting on her kids and cats, punctuated by the occasional husbandly serenade. Sometimes she even manages to write. Mostly she just makes it up as she goes. She is very follow-able at the following locations: heartofthedreaming.com

In anticipation for Allison Pang’s second book in the Abby Sinclair series, A Sliver of Shadow, she is giving away an ecopy of A Brush of Darkness to one of our lucky readers! We LOVED this book!! Don’t believe us? Read Nat’s 5 Star review, here. BELIEVE US, YOU WANT THIS BOOK!

A Brush of Darkness – Abby Sinclair #1

The man of her dreams might be the cause of her nightmares. Six months ago, Abby Sinclair was struggling to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Now, she has an enchanted iPod, a miniature unicorn living in her underwear drawer, and a magical marketplace to manage. But despite her growing knowledge of the OtherWorld, Abby isn’t at all prepared for Brystion, the dark, mysterious, and sexy-as- sin incubus searching for his sister, convinced Abby has the key to the succubus’s whereabouts. Abby has enough problems without having this seductive shape-shifter literally invade her dreams to get information. But when her Faery boss and some of her friends vanish, as well, Abby and Brystion must form an uneasy alliance. As she is sucked deeper and deeper into this perilous world of faeries, angels, and daemons, Abby realizes her life is in as much danger as her heart—and there’s no one she can trust to save her.

Coming February 2012!

A Sliver of Shadow – Abby Sinclair #2

Just when her new life as a TouchStone – a mortal bound to help OtherFolk cross between Faery and human worlds – seems to be settling down, Abby Sinclair is left in charge when the Protectorate, Moira, leaves for the Faery Court. And when the Protectorate’s away…let’s just say things spiral out of control when a spell on Abby backfires and the Faery Queen declares the Doors between their worlds officially closed.

The results are disastrous for both sides: OtherFolk trapped in the mortal world are beginning to fade, while Faerie is on the brink of war with the daemons of Hell. Along with her brooding eleven prince Talivar and sexy incubus Brystion, Abby ventures to the CrossRoads in an attempt to override the Queen’s magic. But nothing in this beautiful, dangerous realm will compare to the discoveries she’s making about her past, her destiny, and what she will sacrifice for those she loves.

GIVEAWAY DETAILS: Allison is offering up one copy of A BRUSH OF DARKNESS (Abby Sinclair #1). To enter, please leave a comment telling us what your favorite holiday food is!

I tried meringues again because of Allison.
In my childhood, mom would buy them from the super market…stale and hard and meh. I definitely didn’t like them.
But after she’d mentioned baking them this season, I stopped by a good bakery near the day job and bought a single almond meringue. Wow. Insanely good!
So thank you for getting me to try them again. ;)
Also, loved A Brush of Darkness. Loved it!

Sliver of Shadow! Sliver of Shadow! Sliver of Shadow!!!!!!

*cough* er… I mean, do you have a countdown widget?

Anyway, I have a couple copies of A Brush of Darkness. One I read and one I save to keep it looking pretty (Yes, I am lame, I know…)

My favorite is my mom’s gumdrop cookies. They are the only food I will knowingly eat coconut in. Sadly, Mini-Me ate all my cinnamon gumdrops this year (I can only ever find them during Valentine’s and any other kind of gumdrops just aren’t as good) so… no gumdrop cookies this year :( I’m hoping someone else made them for at mom’s house.

  • Rain maiden Jen December 17, 2011 at 11:29 am

Love the bear head, I will have to remember that one for teacher gifts next year. A friend of my mother-in-law makes us candy every year. I hiss at my husband over the toffee, it’s so good.

  • RebeLovesBooks December 17, 2011 at 1:06 pm

My Mom was a teacher for years, and she always got wacko gifts too. Now my brother is a teacher and he gets some of the most random gifts, but some are great – one student’s mother cooked him an entire meal of Indian food. Yummy!

My favorite Christmas food is the Christmas ham. The DH doesn’t eat ham, so the only time I get to eat it is at my parents’ house.

  • Cathy M December 17, 2011 at 2:32 pm

Love all the sweet treats this time of year. My favorite’s are home made fudge with pecans and my sister’s pecan bars.

I don’t have a favorite Holiday food, just love food in general, although I do love the fact that certain Holidays have their own candy, love all the peppermint concoctions that are readily available this season!

I already own an e-copy of A Brush of Darkness so don’t need to be entered in the drawing, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the second in the series!

I’ve started making vegan chocolate bottomed macaroons during the holidays for the last couple of years. I’d never had macaroons (vegan or non-vegan) and always thought of them as an old lady cookie but decided to make them, for some reason. Turns out I love them and they’ve been a huge hit with family, friends and co-workers.
