With “Harry Potter” finished, “The Twilight Saga” coming to a close and “The Hunger Games” getting steady buzz, DreamWorks is looking to launch its own fantasy franchise, as the studio has acquired feature film rights to all five books in Karen Marie Moning’s bestselling “Darkfever” series.
Project was previously set up at 20th Century Fox under its New Regency banner.
Series follows MacKayla Lane, an ordinary young woman from Georgia who travels to Ireland to track down her sister’s killer. While overseas, she discovers an extraordinary world filled with ancient secrets, vampires and other tough-to-kill creatures. Protag, who has special abilities, is tasked with finding the Sinsar Dubh, a powerful yet elusive book that can help her save both the fantasy realm and the mortal world.
No exec has been assigned to oversee the project yet, though it is being envisioned as a potential live-action fantasy franchise.
The fifth and final installment of the adult-themed series, “Shadowfever,” was released last December.
DreamWorks has a long-term deal with Disney to market and release its live-action pics.
Say WHAT? Disney? Really? Guess that means no smexy time. And why must they mention HP & Twilight in the same sentence? I’m thinking they’re about to ruin a series. How are they going to do Mac all pri-ya? HUH HUH?

I want to clear up any confusion there may be – there are TWO charity auctions raising money to help with Leslie’s medical expenses. The other auction is being run by Jo Carol from RT & Anne Elizabeth. Their auction set up a website shortly after we began collecting donations for our own auction. We talked with Anne Elizabeth and decided to keep our auction separate, partly to avoid the confusion of coordinating so many people to run one auction and partly because we (Mitch and I) believed it was best to have an auction after RWA.
So, while we encourage you to spread the word and bid on items at Jo Carol’s auction (which starts tonight), since both auctions are benefiting the same great person, we want to make certain you are aware that your items are not up for bid in the auction currently trending as #labanksauction on Twitter.
Our auction will begin on July 6th, at which time we will send out another e-mail with the link to the auction, so that you can spread the word.
Again, if you wish to bid on items in the current auction, we encourage it, since it is also raising money to help Leslie with her medical expenses. The website for that is here:
