WLP Wants To Know: Luggage?! Conventions?!

November 19, 2010 in WLP Wants To Know

I know, I know you’re all going “Luggage? Has Pixie lost her mind again?” Nope, as one of CSN’s Preferred Bloggers, I get to talk to you today about Luggage. Relax, I’m not going to talk about rolling suitcases…but the topic worked perfectly when I started thinking about it, since I am debating on going to a Con next year.

I freely admit I have a few addictions, Books (duh), Music, Shoes (what woman doesn’t?) and Purses.I can’t even begin to tell you how many purses I have at this point, from hobo bags to one sided backpacks. I have a problem, I need detox. Whatelse is new?

I got to thinking, when I go up to the cottage I never have enough room. I end up talking about five bags with me..thus the boyfriend has a freak out about space & why I need 90 pairs of shoes & 400 books. Yeah, typical traveling female here. You never know what to bring but you know not to leave any man item behind. So you pack for every weather condition known to mankind, that includes at least 2 pairs of shoes right?

I am tentitively planning to go to Authors After Dark in Philly or Romance Writers of America in NYC! And I’m scared, I have no idea what to expect or what to bring (other then clothing, duh). So I figured lets just ask those of you who have been to a Con before.

WLP Wants To Know: When you travel, how many bags do you travel with? How many are just for books? What should I expect to bring in terms of extra space for freebies?! I’ve never been to a Con…help me, I’m scared!! What should I expect?

WLP Wants To Know: Freedom of Speech?

November 10, 2010 in WLP Wants To Know

Whilst having my coffee & replying to Tweets, Tori from Smexybooks RT’d something rather disturbing!

After RT’ing the link, I thought about it. I hate the content, it’s disgusting..but it speaks to a bigger issue. Freedom of Speech.

Just because we don’t like the content, should we immediately get out the pitchforks? (I know, be amazed, Pixie isn’t freaking out). A few months back I remember everyone up in arms because a few books were banned in school, but now we are pissed because a book (with really disturbing content) is up on Amazon.

What’s the difference? I’m sure everyone has read a book that’s disturbed them, that said if we don’t like the content we don’t have to read it. We can report it, but really do you think Amazon will take it down? Doubtful, since it’s not illegal to write a book. It’s the ACTION that’s illegal.

Many are saying we should boycott Amazon….

So WLP Wants To Know… What do you think about this book? Obviously it’s so damn gross, but really think about it. When is freedom of speech going too far?  Does it go to far? Should be report it? WTH can we do? While I & many of us are disgusted, does anyone hear us? Should we boycott Amazon?

Yeah, this is a think hard topic people.

WLP Wants To Know: What Makes A Bad Sex Scene?

November 5, 2010 in WLP Wants To Know

I have to much time on my hands, obviously, because I’ve been pondering What Makes A Good Sex Scene. In the most basic of ideas, a hot hero & a sexy heroine. Okay, I got that much. But what else? What is a sex scene supposed to do for you? Turn you on? Make you laugh? Make you wanna jump someone or something plastic? Yeah, I went there, sue me.

You see, I know what I don’t want in a sex scene. Exactly what I don’t want to read & what more then likely makes me snort with laughter.

Exhibit A:

No matter how hot & steamy it sounds, shower sex isn’t as hot as it sounds. First, you need a man who isn’t gonna drop your ass. Second, he must have spectacular balance, or once again..he’ll drop your ass. Three, umm water is umm drying, right ladies? How is that sexy? How is water in your ears sexy? Cause you know it’s gonna happen right?

Shower scenes just don’t do anything for me, soap to me is for cleaning. Have you ever gotten soap in your eyes? Then you know what I’m talking about. It’s fine & good that our hero & heroine want to be fresh & clean, but come on. Lathering up with soap, not sexy.

Exhibit B

No not cat sex, or car sex…public sex! Honestly, have you ever been that excited you couldn’t wait until you got inside? Pfft. Liars. *blushes*

And damn it if that picture didn’t totally make me loose my train of thought, I was laughing to damn hard to remember where I was going with this…..umm yeah….moving on…

Exhibit C

Domination is fine & dandy, but when it gets hardcore..no thanks. I was recently talking to another blogger about a series I started, within the first few chapters there was hardcore BDSM & rape scenes. EWW. Sorry, doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest. A little hair tugging, some hard, fast sex, sure but that’s where I draw the line. Okay fine, vampire bites are sexy…but they don’t really exist do they?

Exhibit D

And finally…words. Certain words can ruin a sex scene faster then you can snort. Among them: Moist, Secretions, Lubrication & Squishy. I cannot TAKE those words in a sex scene, they give me a case of the dirty feelings. Even in normal conversation if someone says moist, I freak out. I want to revert to childhood, stick my fingers in my ear whilst screaming “LA LA LA LA I can’t hear you”. *shudder*

Now I must go wash my fingers off, they feel dirty.

WLP Wants To Know: Series Reviews

November 2, 2010 in WLP Wants To Know

It’s been awhile since I did a Wicked Lil Pixie Wants To Know post hasn’t it? Well, I finally have something I want to ask you all. Series Reviews.

Two weeks ago I started Vicki Pettersson’s Zodiac Series, by book two I was screaming at Spaz that she had to get them too. Well, I am done & Spaz is almost done the forth book with one more to go. I have to tell you, this is my new favorite series. Whoa! If you haven’t read them, run to the bookstore & get them.

In any case, I want to know..how would you like us to review them? Do you want a review of the whole series at once? Or the normal way we review, one book at a time? Since Spaz and I will be reading many new to us series, I want your input on how we format those reviews!

Speaking of reviews, do you want to see a review every day? Or do you like the way we do it now? Is there anything you’d like us to change? Less wordy? More wordy?

Hell, is there anything you hate on the site that you’d like to see changed?

WLPW2K: Favorite YA’s of 2010

September 27, 2010 in WLP Wants To Know

I’ve read a TON of YA’s this year, yet only four of them have left such an impression I can’t seem to forget them. They’re all different: Fey, Demons, War & Steampunk. These are my MUST read YA’s (so far) of 2010.

Julie Kagawa – The Iron King

Julie Kagawa – The Iron Daughter

Lisa Derochers – Personal Demons

Cassandra Clare – Clockwork Angel (Review Coming Soon)

 Hunger – Jackie Morse Kessler

I have left off Mockingjay, I wasn’t all that impressed with it like I was Hunger Games & Catching Fire. I’ve also left off Infinity, Nick ALWAYS stays with me as he’s been my favorite male character in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter Series forever.
