Pixie’s Totally Random Music Post

February 18, 2011 in Music

I figured I’d share my heavy rotation list with you all, cause I know how much you all “love” my music posts. Muahah. It’s been so long since I’ve done a random music post, next time I’ll get Pam to do one! You have all been warned, my musical taste is all over the map.

I’ve been on a Type O Negative kick (again). I love Peter Steele, he was a beautiful man. I hope he’s giving the angels hell.

Another heavy rotation has been Celldweller’s Frozen, Klayton makes me wanna go dancing & I like him more because he let me talk books with him.

Pam and I have been going a bit old skool with our flashbacks of our Raver Days/Club Kid Days. Whenever I’d walk into this one club, they’d blast this song for me.

I am a huge Jamiroquai fan, HUGE. One of the best shows I’ve ever been to. This song KILLS live. Seriously thought my insides might jump out of my body due to the bass. Plus, Jay Kay’s pants are white…it’s raining..uh huh

My other fangirl band is The Prodigy. I’ve adored them since they came out way back. I’ve never seen anyone covering them other then samples, until now…and I love this!

I’ve been listening to a lot of AiC when I want to just chill out & be left alone. This song just does it for me.

Speaking of chilling out, two words: Massive Attack.

New Royales. Got to give shout outs to my fellow Canadian’s. Added bonus, not only does the song sound amazing my uber talented cousin directed this video! If the female singer (Liz) sounds familiar, it’s because she’s on Eminem’s new album ;)

And finally, one of my all time favorites. This is the one track that is always on my MP3 player, I can’t delete it.

So share with me, what are your top 5-10 songs of all time?

Pixie Talks Music & Youtube Epi. 1

October 15, 2010 in Music

It’s Friday & I’m lazy. I can usually go on & on about books, but today I want to go in a different direction…music. I’m sure if you’re following me on Twitter, you know I have some crazy musical mood swings daily. One day it could be something calm like Massive Attack & the next day I could be bouncing about to Static-X. Add to that my facination with Youtube, I kid you not I have 520 videos favorited. So I’m going to take you on a journey into the music of the Pixie.

I’m a huge industrial fan and it would be remiss of me not to start this post off with one of the best bands to come out of Canada, Skinny Puppy. Assimilate is brilliant, I can’t even tell you how many times a week I blast this song.

I admit, I am not a fan of covers. I like the original versions of songs for the most part, but when I heard Chino of the Deftones blast out The Chauffer by Duran Duran..whoa. Chino killed it, I hate the original now. When he sings “Sing Blue Silver” I shudder.

If you know me, you know I am a HUGE Prodigy fan. No one puts on a show like Prodigy! When I saw them last, as soon as Out of Space started, the crowd went INSANE. Prior to that concert, I had never left a show sweating like a mini pig. Still my all time favorite song to get me moving.

I watched a documentry on Ian Curtis & Joy Division last year, then picked up the biography his wife wrote. It brought this video to a whole new light, I can’t watch this without thinking about what he was going through at the time. This is one of my all time favorite songs.

And of course, I couldn’t let you all go without some Static-X. The quality, blurry..the sound, amazing. Muahah. This was the first Static-X show I saw & I smuggled my camera in. Security isn’t gonna make issue with the 5’4 chick now are they? I was told they were snatching camera’s left right & center, but they didn’t catch me. You have no idea how hard it was to not sing along or dance, considering Bled for Days is my favorite Static song!

Thus concluding episode one & scaring the hell out of you all. I take pride in terrorizing my followers, I’m evil that way.

RIP Peter Steele

April 15, 2010 in Music

I always thought, if anyone was a candidate for being a “real” vampire it was Peter Steele from Type O Negative. I woke up this morning to a flood of emails & text messages from friends telling me he had died.

I really don’t know what more to say, other than fans turn on some Type O today in honor of Peter.

One Love For Chi

July 25, 2009 in Music

If you have noticed my blog roll, you’ll see a blog called One Love For Chi. I never explained it’s significance, and how much that blog means to me and alot of Chi fans across the World.

That’s Chi.

chidog

Chi is the bassist for the Deftones, a band that I have loved since my friend Jimmie introduced me to their music back in high school. I was horrified to read, in November Chi was involved in a serious car accident and was in a Coma.

It’s been a very rough road for Chi, his family & his friends, but they’ve been absolutely amazing to his fans by posting blog updates on Chi’s condition and progress. They are such positive people and have surrounded Chi with nothing but good. But they still need help, there insurance hasn’t been to kind. Us Canadian’s take our healthcare for granted, espcially after reading what Chi’s gone through.

Take a moment out of your day, say a prayer for Chi & his family, stop by the blog and give them strength or a donation, no matter how much. But never forget how blessed we all are and that life is a great gift.

Rediscovering Old Music

May 21, 2009 in Music

I love when I hear a song and it brings back good memories. I have so much music that I often forget about old songs that I loved “back in the day”. Case in point, Belly. I don’t remember how it came back to me, more than likely Sirius in the truck but I had to write it down so I’d remember to find it when I got home. Read the rest of this entry →
