Megan promises listeners to her new radio call-in show that she’ll “slay their personal demons,” and they believe her. So do the personal demons… although she doesn’t know it, Megan is the only human without a demon on her shoulder! Megan and her allies – a demon lover who both protects and seduces her with devilish intensity, a witch with poor social skills, and three cockney guard demons – have to deal not only with the personal demons, but a soul-sucker, ghosts of Megan’s past, and a reporter who threatens to destroy Megan’s career!

Megan Chase is a psychologist & a psychic with a new phone in radio show, her boss Richard has decided she must use the tag line “How can I slay your personal demons?” and she hates it. She’s not the only one, there actually are personal demons and they aren’t impressed with her. Personal demons are the ones that sit on your shoulder and whisper to humans “do bad things” as they live off the energy given by certain emotions and they believe Megan is trying to slay them. Add into the mix one Greyson Dante, a reporter Brian & three demon bodyguards backing her up. Then you have zombies and some pretty nasty demons trying to kill Megan. What’s a girl to do?

I have to say, everytime I picked up this book I heard Depeche Mode in my head but the words changed from Personal Jesus to Personal Demons. Thanks Stacia!

Personal Demons is extremely individual concept, it was unlike anything I’ve ever read about demons.  Demons see evil differently than we humans do, gathering energy through depression, sadness and anger to live. The pacing was great and let me tell you, Stacia writes one helluva sex scene, I’m still sweating. I also would like to inquire where I can find my very own Greyson Dante, who knew a fire demon could be so hot?

Megan is a great character, she can fight with the best of them when she needs too but freaks the hell out when zombies attack her in her bathroom! Speaking of attacks, the action scenes are amazing and well detailed it’s like you’re right in the room with Megan. The three demon bodyguards were my favorite in the series, not only can they fight like hell but they can do make up and give awesome clothing advice! There’s also snark and I am all about the snark and witty comebacks!

There are all sorts of twists and turns, towards the end I was pretty shocked! For the last 4 chapters I couldn’t put the book down, I actually turned off the TV and put my cellphone on silent. The big ending was awesome and I had to run out and buy book two right away!

I definitely recommend Personal Demons if you like action mixed with some pretty amazing sex scenes, all wrapped in a great plot.

League Challenge

February 1, 2010 in Contests On Other Blogs

Jackie at Literary Escapism came up with a great mini-challege I am kicking myself for not thinking of! The League of Reluctant Adults. If you haven’t read any of these authors, trust me when I tell you to RUN to the bookstore. I have yet to read a League book I hated, I find I laugh the hardest when I’m reading League Member Books, so goooo!  I have already picked my authors:

Stacia Kane (2 books), Mario Acevado (1 book), Anton Strout (he has a new short story out tomorrow! And I’m praying *ahem* that I can get my hands on a copy of his newest Simon book) & I think I’m going to try Rob Thurman, the leagues newest member. I’ve read all of the rest of the League, so trust me it’s good shit.

Speaking of which, Mark Henry will kinda be here on Thursday, he ghost writes for Amanda Feral, Zombie Fashionista so come say hi to her on Thursday…she might bite though, or eat you.

Here are the details one last time:

  1. You do not have to be a participant of the New Authors Challenge, but if you’re not, why not?
  2. The Challenge will run from February 1st through the 28th. All reviews must have a February 2010 date.
  3. The goal is to read up to 5 different authors from the above list. There are 20 different authors, so finding three shouldn’t be too hard.
  4. The idea is to try a new author (it is a New Author mini-challenge), however, if you’ve already read all 20 of them, you can still participant, but don’t re-read a novel. Try something new. Not only is this an excuse to try a certain group of authors, but it’s also a great chance to help promote them.

Just so everyone knows who is in the League…

Mario Acevedo Stacia Kane Kat Richardson
Michele Bardsley Caitlin Kittredge Michelle Rowen
Dakota Cassidy Kelly Meding Diana Rowland
Carolyn Crane Richelle Mead Jeanne Stein
Molly Harper Nicole Peeler Anton Strout
Mark Henry Cherie Priest Rob Thurman
Jackie Kessler Jennifer Rardin Jaye Wells

There’s a huge incentive to joining this mini-challenge.  When I initially posted about it, the League loved it so much, they threw in a bunch of books to be given away at the end of the challenge.  I now have 35 novels to be given away and all everyone has to do is read and review a League novel in February.  Each participant has 10 chances to get their names in the drawing – 1 entry for each book reviewed (up to 5) and an additional entry for a second place you review said book.  For instance, if you read Tempest Risingby Nicole Peeler and review it on your blog and Amazon, you’ll get 2 entries.  To add your links, add one to Mr. Linky below and then leave your second link (of the same review) in the comments below.

On March 2nd, I’ll draw 7 winners and they will get to chose which 5 books they would like to be sent.  There are two stipulations to this, however:

On March 2nd, I’ll draw 7 winners and they will get to chose which 5 books they would like to be sent.  There are two stipulations to this, however:

  1. The sets do not count as one book nor can they be broken up.  If a set has 3 books included, then you can only chose 2 other novels.
  2. If you chose an ARC, then you must post a review of said book by it’s release date or as close to it as you can, depending on when you receive the book.

Other than that, it’ll be a first come first choose as to which titles you get.  So that everyone has a fair shot at it (I’m thinking of the PST vs my EST), I’ll post the winners after 3pm EST on March 2nd.

Now that all of this has been dealt with, let’s get to reading!
