Interview & Contest With Leslie Lee Sanders

January 20, 2010 in Author Interviews

I am pleased to have author Leslie Lee Sanders with us today, thank you Leslie for taking the time to do a quick interview!

WLP: What got you into writing erotica?

LLS: In 2004 I was a big fan of an author who wrote about an amazing MMM threesome that just blew me away. I mean, it had everything, love, lust, sex, commitment, betrayal, secrets and so on. I told myself then . . . I have to do that. So in 2005 that’s what I did. Except my erotic threesome is MMF and resides in a crazy world of their own. Now I dedicate a website to the book and the lives of the characters in Three’s a Crowd as an online erotic serial.

WLP: Why M/M & Menage?

LLS: One quick answer would be because I love to read about men in love. I enjoy writing and reading about the unusual or unconventional in love. Sometimes I think MM or ménage fiction has an unpredictable quality about it. Things can end up very differently in ménage than in traditional erotic romance. In traditional erotic romance the girl gets the guy or she doesn’t, most likely she does because that’s the favored route to a happy ending. And we all love and demand happy endings. In ménage, for instance, there’s so many ways it could end I’m always surprised. Maybe only two of them stay together, maybe they all stay together, or maybe they all go their separate ways with a promise to be together again in a happy for now ending.

WLP: Why did you choose to write Trisha as someone so materialistic?

LLS: Honestly, I was numb reading about the same stereotype and clichéd heroine in certain erotic romances. Yes, most of the heroines in erotic romances have a flaw that makes them relatable and a conflict they must satisfactorily resolve by the end of the book. In What a Girl Wants, Trisha’s conflict is her flaw.

We know these types of girls, we see them all over TV and they are sometimes portrayed as villains because of their selfish or materialistic ways (i.e. Paris Hilton). We instantly despise them and rarely allow ourselves to see the person behind the mask. I asked myself, “Could this particular girl grow up and become a selfless woman by the end of the story?” In some cases it may have been too late for the reader, but creatively I needed to tackle the idea.

WLP: Will you ever expand on Kato & Bryson’s relationship?

LLS: Actually, while writing What a Girl Wants, I thought about dedicating some time to the Kato/Bryson relationship maybe as a prequel or sequel to the story. In my mind, I once thought it would make a great MM erotic story. But now that I have other works in progress and other ideas brewing, I think it would be wise to move on and continue with something fresh and new.

What A Girl Wants – Leslie Lee Sanders

Trisha has a lot on her mind and it all relates to her material possessions. Her neighbor Kato tries convincing her that he can make her happy, as her lover, but she’s convinced that he has nothing to offer. Later he shows up with a gift and her desire peaks. She can’t refuse the gift or him.

But they both have secrets.

Trisha’s been sleeping with Kato’s best friend, Bryson. He’s the rough bad boy that knows what a girl wants. But when the boys put on a late night window show, she’s left aroused and surprised. Is Kato sleeping with Bryson too?

Feelings start to emerge which leaves her confused and intrigued. She’s an exhibitionist with an obsession for material things, and two gorgeous men want her. Can she erase her greedy side? Can she make them all one happy trio?

Trisha is all into exhibition which she does nightly for her 21 year old neighbour Kato, when Kato wants to move the window show to her bedroom Trisha doesn’t think he’s man enough for the job. Not to mention she’s also been sleeping with Kato’s best-friend Bryson.

This was my first erotica,  menage & m/m read so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. (It’s a short read at just 34 pages) Glad I gave it a try but let me tell you, the main character Trisha irritated me as soon as she started “speaking”. I may be used to strong female characters and Trisha was the complete opposite, extremely materialistic to the point that had she been a real person I’d have punched her. That said, she does try to redeem herself at the end but from my point of view its too late for readers to like this character.

Trisha is hardcore superficial, she talks about Kato’s looks, his money never once mentioning anything but superficial things. She later goes on to say that her Father treated her like a Princess (no freaking kidding). Kato ends up buying her a pair of Louboutin’s (shoes) she decides he gets sex. Really. Irritated me something fierce. Like I said, she tries to justify it and in the end gives them back, but to me the damage was already done she looked like a paid hooker. She only gets worse, she answers a phone call from Bryson DURING sex with Kato. Can you see where this is heading and why I can’t stand her?! Then she kicks Kato out for Bryson, again I can’t stand this character.

Leslie Lee Sander’s writing is great and her menage & m/m scenes are HOT like fire. But I found that Trisha ruined the story and had it been another type of female, even a shy one this book would have been much better.

My Rating: 3/5
